Open Fences is a program designed to work with physically healthy children, and their families, who have been touched by trauma either mentally or physically. Hurts on the inside, caused by neglect, abuse or trauma, can sometimes cause just as much damage as a physical trauma.
Our program is unique in that we not only work with the child, but the caregiver also, usually the mother. We recognize that families come in all different shapes and sizes and look forward to meeting your goals the best we can. Caregiver and child will work together in a positive environment, learn basic horsemanship, and bring a sense of balance back into the relationship.
Horses have a unique ability to reach out and touch a child, allowing them the confidence needed to face their own "stuff." While working with the Trainer and Family Life Educator, your child will move toward a sense of gaining control by learning how to be respectful, responsible, and fun to be around.
Open Fences Therapeutic Horsemanship Program covers a wide range of expertise and hopes to encourage growth, foster a loving relationship between the child and primary care giver, and give the family something fun to look forward to.
